Repurposing with the public
Summer 2023
My role: Surveying for grading, Japanese translation, plant identification, documentation, removal, and transplant.
In collaboration with Napat Noinae and Yanisa Chuepeng
Joining Takano Landscape Planning on a community engagement project, we sought to revitalize the landscape of a repurposed historic home to make an engaging elderly care facility. The company planned workdays with stakeholders, but first and foremost, a site inventory was necessary. The previous owner left behind many ideal garden plants perfectly reusable for the new layout, but also many noxious weeds. As the intern with the most skills in botany and Japanese language, I was tasked with identifying herbaceous and woody plants on site, determine their value for the clients' needs, and to relay their location through documentation.
Our team prepared the site for the volunteers by marking the plants and work spaces with tape and sourcing equipment. The community workdays consisted of transplanting rhododendrons, clearing out sasa bamboo grass, and transplanting valuable plants into containers.
